On the morning of 17th November 2021, all the students of Irushadhiyya School gathered together in the school hall today to greet and celebrate the 32nd Lhenveringe Dhuvas (Poets Day). The main aim of celebrating this special day was to appreciate and commemorate the invaluable contributions of all those who made Dhivehi literature what it is today. This report intends to outline the highlights of the event.
The assembly was blessed with the recitation of the Holy Quran and was introduced with a speech. Among the many important topics discussed, the theme for the year as well as who the day was dedicated to was also highlighted in the introductory speech by Aishath Fainaan Faisal of 10S, DLA President for the year 2020-2021.
Many students actively took part in the assembly, portraying their unique talents with recitations of Bandhi, Raivaru and Lhen. The assembly was concluded with best wishes for the day and with hope for those aspiring to bring life to Dhivehi Literature.
17th January, 2021Lees A. Haadhy - ELA Vice PresidentOn the morning of 10th November, our school conducted a session for all the students and staff on the Republic day of 2020. This session’s main aim was to understand the history behind the day and why it is celebrated.
The session was hosted by Ms. Junaina Ismail and Ms. Dunya Abdu’Samad, the Social Studies teachers of the school. They both did an exceptional job of illuminating all the historical events that led to this day. They ensured every student and staff in the audience was well informed by interacting in both English and Dhivehi language.
We learnt that our country was under an absolute monarchy for approximately 812 years until 1932. In addition, we also got more information about our first president, Mr. Mohamed Ameen Didi, who lost his presidency after just 7 months. One of the highlights of the session was the timeline of our presidents from 11th November 1968 to this day in 2020.
The students described the session to be both informative and enjoyable. Everyone liked that they were awarded chocolates when they answered the questions correctly. It was most enjoyable when the teachers were asked questions as well.
Ms. Fathimath Saeed, a teacher who participated in the session said, “it was an informative session that helped students, as well as teachers, get a clear idea of how the monarchy was abolished and a republic was installed in the Maldives."
To conclude, the session's aim was well achieved, and the students learnt about the history behind Republic Day. We thank the school for organising this excellent session, and we look forward to attending more of the kind.
On the morning of 4th November, an awareness session titled 'Cyber Age: Internet Security' was conducted for all the students of the school. The main aim of the session was to make students aware of the dangers internet poses as well as how to effectively use the internet .
The session was facilitated by Mr. Ahmed Mihad, principal of Feydhoo School, who did a wonderful job at conveying the truth of the matter with exceptionally well chosen words. He ensured he had all the students' attention by making the session interactive and by asking questions every so often while also making a few laughable jokes along the way.
The students all seem to enjoy the session and describe it as both informative and instructive. Many also liked the fact that Mr. Mihad incorporated real-life incidents to further support his argument.
Luha Lirar from 10B says: "The session was very helpful, specially for our age. And I think it was a great idea to organise such an event as nowadays all teens are into social media and are not aware of the dangers. Most importantly, the session was conducted in an interesting way so we were not bored or anything. I hope we will have more sessions like this in the future"
In brief, the main objective of the session was undoubtedly achieved. Students went home after a thorough understanding of how to be protected in the virtual world of today. They also learnt tips and ways to evade potential online predators and hackers. We thank Mr. Mihad for taking out a few hours of his time to enlighten us all. Thank you Mihad Sir!
